WE BELIEVE IN LEADERSHIP

WHAT WE OFFER

Our mission is to prepare principled, highly skilled, transformational leaders in higher education with an interest in assuming positions of leadership at the nation’s HBCUs.

Our vision at H.E.L.F. is to play a vital role in this mission by encouraging others to “lift as they climb” in order to ensure that HBCUs survive and thrive as national models of achievement.

Our Values

  • We believe in the importance of HBCUs.

  • We believe in preparing visionary leadership.

  • We believe in leadership development best practices.

  • We believe in time-honored traditions of success.

At H.E.L.F. We offer the opportunity for leaders to be sponsored through our Presidential Leadership Institute and our Inspire Institute. We remain connected through our Annual Reunion. Additionally we endeavor to keep the legacy of HBCUs rich through our ICIH Conferences. Find out how you can connect with us below.

THE PRESIDENTIAL LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

Lead. Inspire. Lift.

There is a leadership shortage. Our institutions are wrought with highly
publicized rates of turnover in Executive Leadership. Our institutional habitus
and subsequent institutional needs are profoundly different from majority
institutions. As a result, we need Executive Leadership training that enhances
the skills of leaders for institutions that are culturally and historically rich in
mission and purpose.

Higher Education Leadership Foundation (H.E.L.F) Presidential Leadership
Institute (PLI) is both a proactively and responsively designed training program
for HBCU Executive Leadership. The program is a year-long institute using an
adaptation of functional mentoring model (Thorndyke et al., 2008) that is
culturally responsive and inherently appropriate for our leadership challenges.
Involving horizontal and lateral mentoring from veteran executive leaders,
Sages, and peer groups, Trailblazers, the H.E.L.F Mentorship Model is integral
to the longitudinal success of our participants.
